FREE LENTEN DEVOTIONS PROGRAM

The Society of St. Andrew invites your congregation to participate in our 2012 Lenten devotion and giving program, “Living Proof”.  In keeping with the traditions of Lent, the Society of St. Andrew invites your congregation to participate in a program of spiritual reflection, prayer, and giving. SoSA’s Lenten devotion program challenges the reader to take seriously the scriptural injunctions to care for the poor, while also providing an opportunity to feed our hungry neighbors.

Each day during Lent, our gifted and talented writers, through scripture and prayer, share where they have seen Jesus at work in the world. As you make the journey to the cross this year, use these devotions and prayers to reflect on your own “Living Proof” of Jesus Christ.” The Society of St. Andrew salvages fresh produce that cannot be sold and delivers it to agencies that feed hungry people in the United States.

TO ORDER: Learn more at http://www.endhunger.org/lent.htm. For questions, or to order SoSA’s free Lenten devotion materials and Good Friday Fast, you can also contact The Rev. Jennifer Vestal Moore at church@endhunger.org or 800-333-4597.

LENTEN DEVOTIONS FOR GOD’S STEWARDS

From Parish Publishing

It is most fitting that we speak of stewardship during this period of contemplation, penitence and alms-giving. It is a time of giving and doing charitable work! Our booklet, Lenten Devotions for God’s Stewards will inspire a strengthened sense of faith and stewardship. Give the gift that gives back!

We have put together the perfect package for your faith community: a Lenten devotions booklet, matching offertory envelope, an editable letter from the pastor, as well as a bulletin insert.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, January 18-25,  is a longstanding expression of the ecumenical movement – a worldwide movement among Christians to heal divisions within the Church. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity also promotes dialogue among churches and Christian communities and encourages Christians everywhere to better understand and reflect the implications of “one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” Each year from January 18 – 25, Christians are encouraged to pray together as a sign of the unity that is already theirs in Christ.

To strengthen prayer and unity amongst your own congregations and communities during this time, we recommend learning more about the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by visiting the Week of Prayer website.

Please also visit our Ecumenical and Inter-Religious website at www.elca.org/ecumenical for ecumenical events, news, resources, and other items of interest.

In this reflective week of prayer, we hope that you will become informed and inspired about the strides in worldwide ecumenical activity, and likewise discover your place in this good work.

From The Rev. Dr. Donald J. McCoid, Assistant to the Presiding Bishop, Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations
