Our chance for $38,700

The ELCA Board of Pensions is offering us the opportunity to earn a 2% discount on ELCA health contributions again in 2011. As in 2010, each congregation and organization in our synod will receive a 2% discount on health contributions if 65% of our eligible ELCA-primary plan members complete the confidential Mayo Clinic Health Assessment January 1 – April 30.

In 2011 we could collectively save $38,700!

If you have ELCA-primary health coverage, this savings depends on you. Take the 2011 Mayo Clinic Health Assessment on the EmbodyHealth web portal at www.elcaforwellness.org  January 1 – April 30. We’ll be one person closer to 65% participation, and you’ll earn $150 in your personal wellness account to offset out-of-pocket medical costs.

Hunger Grants Awarded

Several ministries in Central States Synod have been awarded grants from the ELCA Domestic Hunger Program. Agencies/Ministries receiving grants:

  • Humanitri, St. Louis, Mo. $3,000 for Young Family Parenting Center and Boutique Expansion
  • Harvesters Community Food Network, Kansas City, Mo. $2,000 for food distribution
  • Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Wichita, Kan. $1,000 for meeting nutritional needs of local homeless shelters
  • Salem Lutheran Church, Axtell, Kan. $1,000 for “Served By Salem” Meal Project
  • RSVP of Northeast Kansas, Marysville, Kan. $500 for Freezer Meals for Seniors
  • St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wichita, Kan. $3,000 for St. Paul’s Community Breakfast

The ELCA Domestic Hunger Program is part of the ELCA World Hunger Program, and both are coordinated by the Program Unit for Church in Society. The Community Development Services Program in the Program Unit for Church in Society provides administrative coordination for the grants process.

In addition to Church in Society staff serving under the Domestic Hunger Program, there are a number of representatives from other units in the ELCA churchwide offices who participate in the grants screening and allocation process, including the Program Units for Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission, Multicultural Ministries, and Women of the ELCA.
